Rodriguez, Yesenia

Dear Parents/ Guardians/ Students,

I am thrilled to serve your child as his/her new Teacher. I look forward to helping him/her become a critical thinker, enthusiastic reader, skillful researcher and maintain high standards for academic success. In order for the classroom environment to be successful in your child’s learning I will need for students to follow classroom rules.

School wide Reading Program

All students, grades six through eight, will be required to read 30 minutes a day outside of class. To ensure that students are doing their reading, we will check progress through reading logs. AT the end of each 9 week reporting period, a book project will be due. So yes, students will be receiving a grade for their reading.

Make-up Work and Late Work

When an assignment is due, it needs to be turned in. Any assignment not turned in will result in a zero. When a student is absent, it is their responsibility to ask for their make-up work. The number of days the student has to make up the work will be determined by how many days they were out.

Classroom Rules The following are the classroom rules that I expect for each student to follow.

  1. Be in class on time.
  2. Have materials ready.
  3. Keep your hands, feet, and belongings to yourself.
  4. Listen to instructions.
  5. Be respectful to others and their property.
  6. Speak when it is appropriate to speak.

When the rules are broken, these consequences will be strictly enforced with no exception.

1st Infraction: The student will receive a verbal warning.

2nd Infraction: A student/ teacher conference will be held.

3rd Infraction: A parent or guardian will be contacted and made aware of the situation.

4th Infraction: The student will serve detention with the teacher after school.

5th Infraction Parent will be contacted and a referral will be written for the student.

Tardy Policy

In compliance with the schools tardy policy, a student is tardy if they are not in the door by the time the bell rings. If a student is tardy, they will be issued a tardy card. If the problem persists, this will be considered an infraction, at this point, the discipline process will be followed.

Academic Dishonesty

Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. The students caught cheating will both receive zeros and no chance at making up the work.

Your children are 6th graders and are held to higher standards as we prepare them for high school. I look forward for a successful 6th grade year. Please sign and return with your child tomorrow. If you have any questions, I may be contacted at 236-6550. Thank you, parents, guardians, and students for your time and cooperation.
